Davis Takes Loss vs Grant
While Scoring
101 points
Despite scoring 101 points, the Varsity Davis Blue Devils lost their opening game in league play to the Grant Pacers 101-109.
Davis came out strong in the first few minutes with Tyler Sousa going 3 for 3 for field goals and Hayden Russell going 2 for 2 plus a trey. The game see-sawed during the first period and at the end of the first eight minutes of play, the score was 26-28 favoring the Pacers. Kevin Sorensen joined Russell and Sousa in leading scorers by adding 6 points during the quarter.
The second quarter found the Blue Devils struggling to find points and defensive stops. With 5:58 remaining in the quarter the Pacers put up 10 unanswered points and at the half Davis trailed 44-58.
In the third quarter, Davis outscored Grant 26 to 24 points. But the Blue Devils were unable to close the gap - though they came within two with 5:14 remaining in the game when Jack Yoder came up with a steal which he converted to a basket and one.
Tyler Sousa led all Davis scorers with 26; Hayden Russell added 16 and had 5 assists.
Kevin Sorensen and Jack Yoder both posted "double doubles" - Sorensen having 11 points and 12 rebounds and Yoder contributing 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Other scorers for the Blue Devils were Elvis Bikoba with nine, Grant Dickerson with seven, Conor Brehm with six, Patrick Barrientes with four, Bryan Hensley with three, Ilanko Natrajan and James Kilkenny with two apiece and Kris Mackewicz with one.

Varsity Blue Devils Unable to Squelch Flames
Davis had a strong first half against the Lodi Flames on Wednesday night scoring on 17 out of 32 attempts. This gave them a thirteen point lead (54-43) after the first two periods of play. But, a sluggish second half by the Blue Devils allowed the Flames to amass the points and when all was said and done, Davis was on the short end of the tally (92 points to Lodi's 98).
Hayden Russell lead all scorers with 24; Tyler Sousa added 16, Kevin Sorensen had 14, and Grant Dickerson contributed 11. Ilanko Nataraajan had seven; Kris Mac and Jack Yoder had four each; and Tommy Slabaugh, Bryan Hensley, Conor Brehm, and Patrick Barrientes each tossed in three. Sorensen lead in rebounding with 8 grabs; Dickerson and Barrientes had 5 each.
Davis is in action next on Saturday when they play host to the Dixon Rams.
